"There will be a combined Russian-Tajik exercise in March, including an airdrop of airborne units in a number of near-border districts of Tajikistan’s Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous District. The troops of the two militaries will practice cohesion and work out common approaches to neutralizing illegal armed groups in accessible mountainous terrain. The scenario provides for a large number of exercise problems for the troops," the commander said.

According to him, the drills are aimed at practicing command and control when eliminating terrorist groups, destroying their bases, arms and ammunitions dumps, and other facilities. "In all, about 1,500 troops and around 500 items of combat and special hardware have been earmarked for the maneuvers," the colonel general added.

In addition, elements of the Samara-stationed infantry brigade will participate in Exercise Unbreakable Brotherhood 2016 - combined drills of the peacekeeping forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to be hosted by Belarus.

"Elements of the recently activated mountain brigade of the Central Military District will practice the deployment from Kyzyl to the outskirts of Bishkek for the first time. In September and October, they will represent Russia at Exercise Peaceful Mission 2016 (Mirnaya Missiya 2016) - the Shanghai Security Organization’s counterterrorist command-post exercise - and at the Border 2016 (Rubezh 2016) tactical drills of the collective rapid deployment forces of the Central Asian region. Our troops also will take part in Exercise Cooperation 2016 (Vzaimodeistviye 2016) - a combined exercise of CSTO’s rapid reaction forces," Zarudnitsky said.
