This comes a week after President Uhuru Kenyatta assured county police chiefs that new modern vehicles will be purchased to help fight terror.

"Kenya police force will for the first time in history acquire armored personnel carriers to increase their mobility and protective gear when deployed in volatile areas," Uhuru said.

“You don’t have to depend on the military or other security agents for you to perform your duties, we will ensure you are properly equipped.”

The VN4 is a 4x4 light tactical armoured vehicle designed and manufactured in China by the Chinese Defense Company Norinco. The VN4 4x4 wheeled armoured vehicle is a multi-role light armoured vehicle platform that can be used by fast reaction forces, armoured troops, police forces and also for peacekeeping and anti-terrorism missions.

The VN4 is fitted with an open-roof small turret mounted at front top hull armed with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun.

The hull of the VN4 is made in all-welded steel armour plates which provides a protection for the crew against firing of small arms and shell splinters.
