The agreement facilitating visits of Russian warships to Nicaraguan ports will broaden the range of bilateral naval contacts, the minister said, adding that the other accords were related to military-technological cooperation projects.

He mentioned an extensive military education program, which is set to enlarge the number of Nicaraguan servicemen attending Russian military schools.

There will be an international security conference and a military-technological forum tasked to demonstrate prospective military and dual-use products in April, he said.

"We have invited our Nicaraguan colleagues to participate. Hopefully, these events will bolster our military-technological contacts," Shoigu noted.

As to the joint efforts of Russia and Nicaragua in the crackdown on drug trafficking, Shoigu said that was a global problem and countries had to deal with it together.
