Lithuania could have made a decision to clear the dust from the shelved plans to introduce heavy self propelled artillery in its defense capabilities. Head of the Lithuanian army is reported to have announced that plans have been confirmed to acquire some German-made PzH 2000 155 mm self-propelled howitzers as soon as possible.

Poland may review its decision to drop Lockheed Martin Corp's MEADS system from its $5 billion missile defence tender, a senior source at the Polish Ministry of Defence said. The Polish programme is particularly significant for the defence sector given recent cuts to military spending. Poland plans to spend an estimated total of 130 billion zlotys ($36 billion) between 2013 and 2022 on modernising its armed forces, reports today Reuters.

The U.S. Army has awarded Oshkosh Defense, LLC, an Oshkosh Corporation company, a base contract plus options to reset 800 Oshkosh-produced Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) All-Terrain Vehicles (M-ATVs). This M-ATV Reset program will help the U.S. Army achieve its goal of standardizing the M-ATV fleet configuration and ensuring that its primary MRAP platform is 100% mission ready following years of operation in theater.

NATO was set Thursday to agree a major boost to the alliance's defenses near its Russian borders, including six command centers and a quick-reaction spearhead force of 5,000 troops in response to the crisis in Ukraine. Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said ahead of a meeting of defense ministers in Brussels that the move was in response to Moscow's "aggressive actions," but nevertheless purely defensive.

The Government of Lithuania proposed on Wednesday the establishment of LITPOLUKRBRIG, the joint military brigade with Poland and Ukraine. According to the Government's statement, the Cabinet decided to turn to President Dalia Grybauskaite, asking her to initiate the parliamentary ratification process of the military brigade's establishment treaty.

The Indian Army is sprucing up its stores and acquiring air defence guns after a gap of three decades, announced yesterday the Indian newspaper The Sunday Standard. Majority of the systems on the inventory of the Army’s air defence are either obsolete or nearing obsolescence, as the last air defence guns, which are meant to provide an umbrella to the Army’s static assets from an aerial object, were procured in the early 80s.
