The French army has received the first FELIN-capable variant of its VBCI armored infantry fighting vehicle. The variant specifically supports troops equipped with the FELIN soldier system, enabling them to recharge the batteries of manpack electronic systems for dismounted operations and use those systems from within the troop-carrying vehicle.

Germany will extend its support for the French military operation Serval in Mali
 

The German government wants to extend its support for international and French operation Serval in West African Mali, possibly including A310 MRTT-type tanker aircraft, military trainers and medical personnel. Germany’s Air Force has already sent three C-160 Transall ESS transport aircraft with 75 soldiers to Dakar, Senegal. Their job is to transport troops of the Economic Community Of West African States to the Malian capital Bamako and Sevare-Mopti.

Thales awarded optronics contract for Canadian army upgraded LAV III 8x8 light armoured vehicle
 

Thales Canada announced today that it has been awarded a significant subcontract from General Dynamics Land Systems - Canada for the delivery of uncooled optronics technology to be applied to 409 modernized Canadian Army LAV III combat vehicles. General Dynamics Land Systems – Canada is the prime contractor to the Canadian Army for a comprehensive upgrade package modernizing these effective vehicles.

"NASR, with a range of 60 km and inflight maneuver capability, can carry nuclear warheads of appropriate yield, with high accuracy," an army statement said.

All tests on the vehicle were achieved by the Russian Ministry of Defense, and at the request of the Russian army, the manufacturer improved its ability to have more protection against land mines.

Benin purchases ten CASSPIR 2000 4x4 mine protected vehicle from the South African Company Mechem which is now a subdividion of Denel, the largest manufacturer of defence equipment in South Africa. New €84 million order of 64 more systems Gladius future soldier equipment for German Army
 

Moves by the German Bundeswehr to equip its infantry forces with the state-of-the-art Gladius soldier system are gathering pace. In January 2013, the Düsseldorf, Germany-based Rheinmetall Group was awarded an order to supply a further sixty systems. The procurement programme began in 2012 with an initial order of thirty systems, enough to equip 300 troops.

Ukraine is preparing to send to Iraq a batch of 40 BTR-4 armored personnel carriers assembled in Kharkiv under a big Ukrainian-Iraqi contract for military hardware. Representatives of the Defense Ministry of Iraq signed on Thursday a certificate of acceptance of another batch of armored vehicles, Interfax-Ukraine learned at the state-run arms exporter Ukrspecexport.

Czech Republic plans to send military instructors to Mali to join French Army operation Serval
 

The Czech Republic plans to send combat instructors to Mali to join a military operation against Islamist militants in the north of the country, Czech radio reported citing the foreign minister said. According to Czech Foreign Minister and First Deputy Prime Minister Karel Schwarzenberg, the participation of the Czech Republic in the anti-Islamist operation, would prove that his country “is a reliable ally that can help the army of Mali.”

Rheinmetall to supply German army with Fuchs KAI IEDs clearing 6x6 armoured vehicle
 

The German Bundeswehr has contracted with Rheinmetall to supply it with seven Fuchs/Fox armoured vehicles specially configured for detecting and identifying roadside bombs, mines, etc. This new Fuchs/Fox variant is called the KAI, short for its official Germany designation, “Kampfmittelaufklärung und –identifizierung”. The order is worth around €37 million.

For the second consecutive day, India's indigenously developed Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) weapon system, 'Pinaka' was successfully test fired on Thursday, January 31, 2013, from a defence base at Chandipur-on-sea, about 15 km from here. "Three rounds of Pinaka rockets were successfully tested today. Four rounds of trial were conducted, January 31, 2013," a defence official said.
