The Colombian Defense Company THOR has signed a contract with the Colombian Ministry of Defense during ExpoDefensa 2017, to start the development of a new unmanned turret called Myolnir T30 to increase the fire power of the Pegaso 4x4 armoured vehicle in service with the Colombian army.
Pegaso 4x4 APC (Armoured Personnel Carrier) with a mockup of the 30mm turret Myolnir T30 designed by the Colombian Defense Company THOR.
The Myolnir T30 is unmanned turret which will be integrated on the roof of the Pegaso armoured vehicle. The main armament of the THOR weapon station will include one 30mm cannon and 7.62mm coaxial machine gun. The left side of the turret will be also equipped with two launchers for the Spike anti-tank guided missile manufactured by the Israeli Company Rafael.
The 30 mm cannon that will used in the THOR turret is the Mk44 bushmaster designed and manufactured by the American Company Orbital ATK. The MK44 Bushmaster® Automatic Cannon configurations fires all 30mm x 173mm, 30mm x 170mm Rarden & KCB ammunition.
It is a derivative of the 25 mm M242 Bushmaster, and uses 70% of the same parts as the M242 while increasing the firepower by as much as 50% with the 20% increase in caliber size. The barrel is chromium-plated for extended life.
The THOR Myolnir T30 weapon station will be also equipped with the CONTROP's Mobile Surveillance Systems which includes a gyro-stabilized EO / IR Camera Payloads and gyro-stabilized Scanning and Observation Systems.
To increase the self-protection of the vehicle, the turret will be also equipped with the RADA Compact Hemispheric Radar (CHR) able to detect, tracks and classifies all relevant threats that may be fired against combat vehicles as RPGs, ATGMs, and tank rounds. When three or four radars are connected as a system, they provide hemispheric coverage to the Armored Fighting Vehicle (AFV) on which they are installed.
The THOR Myolnir T30 weapon station will have a total weight of 900 kg. The T30 turret has a traverse of 360° and elevation from +60° to -15°.
