Expodefensa 2017: Kargu 2 multi-rotor attack UAV launched by STM

Besides the Alpagu Army Recognition spoke about yesterday, the Turkish defense contractor STM is also presenting for the first time the Kargu 2, a smaller autonomous multi-rotor attack UAV, at Expodefensa 2017.

The Kargu 2 is a multi-rotor UAV solution engineered for anti-terror and asymmetric warfare scenarios. Due to its portability, it can be deployed and operated by a single personnel.

The system performs high-precision surveillance and reconnaissance missions in autonomous or manual modes to neutralize threats within a tactical range of 5 km and with an endurance of 10 min. The UAV operates within a maximum ceiling of 1000 m and with a maximum speed of 72 km/h. It only weights 6.2 kg and is powered by a LiPo battery.

Kargu facilitates its autonomy through sophisticated computer vision and deep learning algorithms, such as tracking, detection and classification of static/moving targets (i.e. vehicle, person, etc). For this purpose, the UAV is fitted with a two-axis gimbal featuring a 30x optical zoom.

The whole system includes one multi-rotor UAV and one ground control unit. It can be operated by a sole soldier.
