Expodefensa 2017: CMI pushing modular turret and training systems

At Expodefensa 2017, being held until Dec. 6 in Bogota, Colombia, the Belgium-based defense and security company CMI Defence is proposing its Cockerill 3000 Series to enhance the Colombian Army’s armored vehicles firepower. Moreover, CMI, through its subsidiary Agueris also emphasizes its know-how in simulation and training systems.

The Colombian National Army is currently in a process of transformation and modernization that makes it necessary to acquire new technologies to adapt to international standards. Among other projects is the modernization of the Army’s fleets of M-1117 and EE-9 Cascavel armored vehicles, for which CMI Defence is highlighting its Cockerill 3000 Series modular turret.

Based on an unprecedented modular concept, the Cockerill 3000 Series is a single platform enabling a turret to accommodate guns of different calibres and the corresponding technological modules: automatic 25 mm, 30 mm, 30/40 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm calibre guns, along with direct fire guns of 90 and 105 mm calibre. These systems can also fire missiles.

Thanks to their unique operational capabilities, to the rapid inter-changeability both of their crews and their arms, and to their high degree of common design, these modular turrets of the Cockerill 3000 Series can cover all types of missions and objectives on the battle field (combat tank, bunker and helicopter engagement, urban combat, intervention in combats known as asymmetric…) at reduced overall operational costs. These systems benefit in particular from the simulation solutions of CMI Defence supplied under the Agueris brand. These enable training and practice on both virtual immersive cockpits and embedded simulators.

On the other side is the France-based CMI Group subsidiary Agueris. a joint venture of CMI Defence SAS and Silkan, French leader in virtual simulation and real time interconnection applied to critical systems, Agueris is today promoting innovative simulation systems to the Colombian and Latin American markets. With Agueris solutions, Colombian Army’s crew would be able to train and practice on both virtual immersive cockpits and embedded simulators.

Agueris’ generic virtual simulators for gunnery training are based upon a virtual immersive cockpit to train the crew (commander, gunner) or the pilot. They are multi-system: one simulator can switch from one weapon system to another, ensuring training on multiple systems using a single simulator.

With Agueris operational embedded training solutions, the real vehicle or turret becomes the simulator : the simulation system connects to the real equipment in a garage, and the crew trains within its real environment using the real-world command and controls.
