Developed to provide significant improvements to performance, durability and ballistic and blast protection, the VLB--Bufalo redefines survivability for the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) in service with Colombian Armed Forces.

Textron Systems offers a lightweight, highly protected system with improved Performance, Safety and Mobility. It is compatible with all version 11-series HMMWVs currently in service and select 10- and 9-series vehicles.

The VLB-Bufalo offers greatly improved survivability by incorporating angles and a v-shaped blast deflection under-body plate. Significant parts commonality with existing HMMWV inventory. It modernizes the original HMMWV cab while continuing to utilize existing controls, linkages, and drive system.

The VLB-Bufalo is motorized with a 6.5 l Diesel engine coupled to an automatic transmission.

The vehicle features door windows that can be slide opened internally or externally. The inner crew compartment is equipped with thermal guard soft interior headliner, and smooth interior to reduce physical hazards to the crew.

The VLB-Bufalo capsule also includes an external battery compartment, and a separate armoured module that isolates fuel cell from crew section.

The VLB-Bufalo is equipped with an open top turret located in the center of the roof of the crew compartment with armour plates on 360° to offer protection for the gunner. At ExpoDefensa, the VLB-Bufalo was armed with one 40mm automatic grenade launcher.
