Premiere in Europe for the Cockerill® i-X Interceptor modular-multi weapons system

The International Defense Exhibition Eurosatory 2022 is the opportunity for Belgian company John Cockerill Defense to present, for the first time in Europe, its new product, the Cockerill® i-X (“i” for “interceptor” and “X” for “modular-multi weapons system”). It is the first ever ground interceptor and is a breakthrough combat system for territorial defense interception: engage and defeat incoming threats before they reach their objective.

The Cockerill® i-X is born from the merger of our technological excellence with weapon systems and the expertise of rally raid performance, and it represents a break with traditional concepts and imposes a new paradigm of military land operations.

The Cockerill® i-X is a completely new armored vehicle fully designed and developed by John Cockerill. It is designed to conduct patrol missions and reach a maximum road speed of 200 km/h and 140 km/h on the desert track. It has a crew of two.

The Cockerill® i-X provides ballistic protection Level 2 STANAG 4569 against the firing of small arms 7.62×39mm API BZ and ballistic protection STANAG 4569 Level 3 against the blast of 8 kg TNT under the wheels and the vehicle floor.

The vehicle is capable of moving at very high speeds on-road and off-road (with a thermal or hybrid thermal electric drive train). Lightweight, stealthy (appearance management with adaptive camouflage, and modification of IR and acoustic signature), it integrates multi-sensor data fusion technology (Smart Helmet, on-board intelligence AI, cameras, sensors: LWS, Acoustic Gunshot detection and localization) and is capable of integrating a suite of effective weapons (such as 25mm, 30x113mm, Anti-tank Missiles, Rockets,…) depending on the threat to be neutralized.

The Man-Machine Interface of the Interceptor is based on the Cockerill ® Smart Helmet, which is worn by the operator, and features an intelligent multimodal engine allowing the management of information of the weapon system and with interactions that will be visual, auditory, and vocal. All this while ensuring a measured control of the cognitive load of the operator during his mission, by using an interface that will be as intuitive as possible. The interface is no longer seen as a «passive» device but becomes intelligent, efficient, immersive and uses the natural interaction capabilities of the operator, in a more ambitious context of use than usual (speed of action, multi-target, rapid movement of the vehicle).

Amongst its striking and innovative aspects, the weapon system is completely retractable to ensure its stealth and speed. The vehicle will be easily transportable by Air (plane, helicopter, droppable by parachute), Sea and Land (train, truck). The weapon system consists of one 25mm automatic cannon and one 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine gun. In option, the turret can be also armed with ATGM (Anti-Guided Missile) or rocket launchers.
