To develop the J8, the Jeep Wrangler was heavily modified by a team of expert Chrysler engineers to create a militarised platform, offering increased payload, durability, cooling, mobility and platform flexibility over the original civilian model.

Mike Mullen, Managing Director of Jankel Armouring said "We are very excited about the launch of the Pegasus SOV. Not only does this vehicle showcase the high flexibility of the Jeep J8 platform, but it also underlines Jankel's ongoing investment in its advanced design and technology capabilities. The combination of Jeep's proven OE base product and Jankel's military engineering know-how have culminated in our ability to offer an extremely capable and class leading product."

The Pegasus SOV was conceived to meet existing requirements for lightweight, highly mobile, tactical vehicles that are transportable inside a Chinook CH-47. This role in Europe has been filled traditionally by Land Rover Defender and Mercedes G-Wagen based vehicles. Pegasus’ capabilities significantly exceed those of existing COTS offerings at a highly competitive price.

Pegasus SOV utilises a powerful and efficient 2.8 litre turbocharged and intercooled diesel engine mated to an automatic transmission and limited slip differentials, offering class-leading mobility and power characteristics.

Proven, uprated axles have been fitted, raising the GVW to 4500 kg and payload to 1500 kg, providing 274 mm of ground clearance. Air suspension on the rear axle allows the vehicle to drive into airframes in full tactical configuration, enabling Pegasus to be 'assault ready' post-egress within 60 seconds (weapon prepped for fire).

The vehicle is also fitted with a new body to increase loading room and improve crew ergonomics and has been designed to integrate a STANAG 4569 Level 1 modular armour solution.

The vehicle on display will demonstrate C4i install and weapon options.

Significant testing and trials have been successfully carried out, while further tests and reliability trials are ongoing to confirm battlefield mission validation. These will ensure that Pegasus SOV is both eligible and best-positioned to become the light tactical vehicle of choice when addressing numerous current and emerging requirements in Europe.
