From 10th to 28th February
2006, EUROCORPS will conduct an exercise at the Training Area Bitche
in France. The deployment phase has already started and re-deployment
should be completed by 5th March. This exercise nicknamed Brilliant
Ledger 2006 is another step in the preparation for the NATO Response
Force (NRF). This preparation started last year after EUROCORPS
returned from Afghanistan and two exercises were already conducted
in 2005.
The NRF is a highly responsive joint and multinational force that NATO heads of States and Governments decided to set up in 2002. Its concept implies that the NRF could have to deploy to poor and war torn areas where no local resources or infrastructures will be available. This is why exercise Brilliant Ledger will see units deploying all their real life support and exercise their capacities to operate in full autocracy in a harsh winter environment. EUROCORPS Headquarters has been designated to command the Land Component of the NRF 7 rotation beginning in July 2006 until January 2007. During this period the headquarters will be ready to deploy at a 5-day notice to wherever the North Atlantic Council may decide. With NRF 7 the whole NATO Response Force will reach its full operational capability.Though the bulk of the forces for the exercise Brilliant Ledger will be provided by the framework nations of EUROCORPS (France, Germany, Belgium, Spain and Luxemburg), this exercise will involve 17 nations adding up to a total of over 3000 participants. |
