EDEX 2021: Boeing to attend Egypt Defence Expo as Silver Sponsor


The organizers of EDEX, the Egypt Defence Expo that will take place in Cairo from November 29 to December 2, 2021, have announced that the American company Boeing has once again shown their support for EDEX, by confirming their participation as Silver Sponsor for the upcoming edition of the event.

Boeing is the world’s largest aerospace company and innovative manufacturer of commercial jetliners and defence, space and security systems. A top U.S. exporter, Boeing products and services include commercial and military aircraft, satellites, weapons, C4ISR, electronic and defence systems, launch systems and performance-based logistics and training.

The company join the growing list of sponsors & exhibitors signed up for the upcoming edition of Egypt's only international tri-service defence exhibition. Boeing is the manufacturer of the AH-64 attack helicopter which is in service with the Egyptian armed forces. 

The Egyptian Air Force (EAF) ordered an initial batch of 24 McDonnell Douglas AH-64 Apache attack helicopters in 1994 and was expected to take delivery of twelve more. The EAF received 45 AH-64D helicopters from 2003 (35 were initially received, with a further 10 being ordered in 2010). 

In May 2020, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has announced that Egypt has requested an upgrade of existing Boeing AH-64D Apache Longbow attack helicopters to the latest AH-64E Apache Guardian standard. As noted by the DSCA, the proposed sale includes remanufactured engines, and AN/ASQ-170 Modernized Target Acquisition and Designation Sight/AN/AAR-11 Pilot Night Vision Sensors (MTADS/PNVS).

The Apache AH-64D/E is an American twin-turboshaft attack helicopter with a tailwheel-type landing gear arrangement and a tandem cockpit for a crew of two. It is capable of destroying armored vehicles, personnel, and materiel targets in obscured battlefield conditions. The Apache helicopter is armed with an M230 30-mm cannon, Hydra-70 2.75-inch rockets, and HELLFIRE missiles (both laser-guided and radio frequency).
