Weststar Defence Industries, The Weststar Group’s defence and security arm exhibits its expertise in building purpose-built tactical military vehicles during its participation in Defence Services Asia 2016 trade exhibition. One of the new vehicle displayed by Weststar at DSA 2016 is the Defence Special Operations Vehicle (SOV).

The Weststar Group Managing Director, Tan Sri Dr. Syed Azman Syed Ibrahim says, “The stars of our show this year are our light multi-role tactical vehicles. Mobile and agile, our GK-M1 Special Operations Vehicle (SOV)."
Weststar Defence Special Operations Vehicle (SOV) is a weapon platform vehicle. The SOV is engineered for multi-mission tactical troop deployment. The vehicle is developed based on a Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) platform with a robust, powerful and efficient drive train. A highly sought after military vehicle type, Weststar Defence SOV is widely recognized for its durability and tactical Capability. Providing troop fire support, Weststar Defence SOV is engineered to be tactically forceful and robust. The SOV is unmatched in its off-road capability in aiding tactical maneuverability in the most demanding battlefield scenarios. The configuration features a fully open steel body with a tubular frame structure capable of transporting a high payload and up to 4 fully geared troops. Fitted with a circular 360-degree swing mount, the SOV can be mounted with weapon systems such as HMG. GPMG. AGL and Gatling. The Weststar SOV has a fuel carrying capacity of 80l and can travel at a maximum speed of 110 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 800 km. It has a total weight of 3,300 kg and a maximum payload of 760 kg. Tan Sri Dr. Syed Azman adds, “Our aspiration is to become a regional leader in defence contracting. Currently, many government services’ fleets are in need of replacing. Therefore we would like to assist local and regional armed forces as well as security authorities replace their fleet with superior vehicles that increase operational efficiency to meet the demands of evolving operational environment.” |
