Following the war in Ukraine and facing the risk of conflict with Russia, Germany wants to strengthen its anti-aircraft defense against possible threats from Russia including the Iskander, a mobile tactical ballistic missile that is widely used in Ukraine to target cities.

The Arrow 3 air defense system is part of the Arrow Weapon System which is the world's first operational, national, stand-alone Anti Tactical Ballistic Missile system. The innovative Arrow 3 interceptor is designed to intercept and destroy the newest, longer-range threats, especially those carrying weapons of mass destruction.

The Arrow 3 is the latest development of the Arrow anti-ballistic missile jointly developed by Israel and the United States. An Arrow 3 battery is expected to intercept salvos of more than five ballistic missiles within 30 seconds.

An Arrow 3 long-range anti-ballistic missile battery includes the ELM-2084 Super Green Pine warning and fire control radar developed by IAI’s Elta Systems, the Citron Tree Battle Management Center, and Hazelnut Tree Launcher Control Center developed by Elbit Systems. The new radar EL/M-2084 has both improved range and resolution by up to 50%. The Golden Citron Battle Management Center made by Elbit Systems also received significant new capabilities.

The launcher unit of the Arrow 3 consists of six erector-launchers tubes and ready-to-fire missiles, mounted at the rear of a two-axle trailer. Arrow 3 is able to intercept ballistic missiles, especially those carrying weapons of mass destruction, at altitudes of over 100 km, and with a reported range of up to 2,400 km.
