“Work to rearm the Strategic Missile Force with advanced missile systems continues. The flight tests of the Sarmat missile system have been successfully conducted. The Yars ground mobile missile system also proved its capabilities during launches at the Plesetsk state testing spaceport”, the Defense Ministry’s press office quoted Karakayev as saying.

The RS-28 Sarmat (NATO reporting name: SS-X-29 or SS-X-30), known as "Satan II", is a liquid-fueled, MIRV-equipped super-heavy intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) produced by the Makeyev Rocket Design Bureau since 2009. It is intended to replace the R-36M2 Voyevoda ICBM (SS-18 'Satan') which has been operational with the Russian Strategic Missile Force since 1988.

The Sarmat was one of the six new Russian strategic weapons unveiled by Russian President Vladimir Putin on 1 March 2018. The Sarmat ICBM was test-launched for the first time from the Plesetsk spaceport on April 20. During the tests, the ICBM proved its design performance at all the stages of its flight. The Russian government still expects the missile will be entering service in 2022. On August 16, 2022, a state contract was signed for the manufacture and supply of the Sarmat strategic missile system.
