This call for projects issued on November 13 by the French Defense Innovation Agency (AID, agence de l’innovation de défense) for the benefit of the armed forces concerns the request for an electronic support payload that can be integrated into drones with a maximum take-off mass (MTOW) of less than 25 kg. This payload must be able to detect, locate, identify or even interact with or block telecommunication transmitters. This call for projects aims to contract one to several research and development projects of interest to the Ministry of Defense for a maximum duration of 7 months each (demonstration included).

Elbit Systems has launched E-LynX-Sat, a compact satellite communications (SATCOM) add-on system. The new system utilizes a lightweight less than 1 Kg terminal that interfaces with Elbit Systems’ E-LynXTM Software Defined Radio (SDR) solution. Turkish defence company Aselsan concluded the design phase of the new EIRS portable early warning radar system, the Turkish Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) announced in November 2018. Aselsan has now completed this design phase. The first delivery of the system is planned for 2021, Cemal Acar reports on Twitter.

Russian airborne divisions and brigades will be the first in the Russian armed forces to switch to Kornet-D1 antitank missiles (NATO code: AT-14 Spriggan) (as already announced by Army Recognition on January 17, 2019). They will have various options of the latest missiles in the world. Kornet can destroy armor, fortifications and buildings, down drones and helicopters.

Barrett has announced it has received the first MK22 precision sniper rifle delivery order from USSOCOM (U.S. Special Operations Command). The submission of its initial production MRAD MK22 (Multi-Role Adaptive Design Mark 22) rifles have met all requirements for the U.S. Department of Defense contract for ASR (Advanced Sniper Rifle) in support of USSOCOM.

Industrial enterprises are upgrading heavy TOS-1A flamethrowers : “The upgraded combat vehicles are better protected against tank fire, have a higher range and fire precision, as well as destruction space by one projectile”, the Russian Defense Ministry said. New unguided rocket-propelled projectiles and modern sights decrease the consumption of munitions and the time of the mission.

The Vietnamese army operates T-90S/SK main battle tanks imported from Russia, along with upgraded T-54Ms with Israeli technology. To reinforce the armored units, there were a number of candidates mentioned in the T-72 series, typically the Russian T-72B3 that Vietnam has become acquainted with in the Tank Biathlon tournament. The most appropriate for Vietnam appeared to be the T-72B1MS White Eagle, similar to the one used by the Lao People's Army since 2019.

The South Korean army has completed the deployment of its K-9 Thunder self-propelled howitzers, about 20 years after it was first put into force in the country, the arms procurement agency said on November 13. The K-9 Thunder self-propelled howitzer was first deployed on the western border islands of Yeonpyeong and Baengnyeong in 1999.

Turkey is planning to maintain the deployment of its S-400 Triumf ‘SA-21 Growler’ air defense systems despite NATO objections, the country’s minister of national defense Hulusi Akar said on November 12. “We continue checking and readying the [S-400] systems in accordance with our plans. We will operate the S-400 in the way some NATO members deploy their S-300”, said Akar as quoted by Turkey’s Anadolu news agency.
