Rheinmetall makes a decisive contribution to the U.S. Army's light artillery cannon project: Rheinmetall’s subsidiary American Rheinmetall Munition (Stafford, VA) has been awarded a $2.5M contract from the U.S. Army for the delivery of a shorter and lighter artillery weapon system in support of the National Defense Strategy.

On Friday, May 20, the G7, an inter-governmental political forum of seven leading economies, agreed to provide $19.8bn in economic aid to Ukraine: the Finance ministers and central bank governors of the United States, Canada, Japan, Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom — the G7 — held talks in Germany to finance Ukraine as it struggles to fend off Russia's invasion and is running out of cash.

According to information published by the New Zealand Herald on 23 May, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the Defence Force personnel would send 30 troops to Britain to train Ukrainian forces on how to use the 105mm L119 light gun. They would stay in the UK until the end of July.

The U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) has selected Sig Sauer to provide its next personal defense weapon for U.S. special operations forces, Nicholas Slayton reports in Task & Purpose. On May 19, SOCOM released a notice of intent to award a five-year fixed firm price contract to the firearms manufacturer. The new personal defense weapon owill be Sig Sauer MCX “Rattler,” which can be chambered in both .300 Blackout and 5.56mm calibers.

Australia presented Kongsberg’s StrikeMaster, its version of the coastal defense system at the Indo Pacific 2022 international maritime exposition, which took place a few days ago in Sydney, Australia. As an option, Kongsberg offers the integration of additional radar CEA technology..

After the announcement by the United States to provide a new military aid of $40 billion to Ukraine, it is expected that the U.S. could deliver M142 HIMARS, a rocket/missile launcher system. This type of weapons delivery to Ukraine could offer a real advantage compared to Soviet-made equipment such as the BM-21, BM-27, and BM-30. The HIMARS also provides high accuracy.

The Austrian armed forces have selected Rheinmetall’s C-sUAS system for a six-month period of testing and evaluation. In May 2022 Rheinmetall Air Defence AG shipped the latest version of its rapidly deployable counter-small unmanned aerial system (C-sUAS) to the Austrian military. The system comprises two shelter units, enabling rapid deployment on standard trailers and trucks. The sensor unit elevates automatically and can be equipped with various detection technologies, including X-band and S-band radar, passive emitter locator, ADS-B receiver and others if required. An integrated, stabilized 360° electro-optical PTZ sensor provides state-of-the-art verification and tracking capabilities.

According to information published by the Czech "CTK" news website on May 20, 2022, the Czech Minister of Defense Jana Černochová confirms the donation by Germany of 14 Leopard 2A4 Main Battle Tanks (MBTs) and one armored recovery vehicle based on Leopard 2 chassis. This Leopard 2A4 tanks delivery agreement to the Czech Republic will be in exchange for the supply of Czech army T-72 MBTs to Ukraine.

BAE Systems announced on May 20 that the first four CV90 Combat Support Vehicles were delivered to the Norwegian Armed Forces during a ceremony hosted by local industry partner Ritek AS in Levanger, Norway. The four vehicles are the first of 20 modernized CV90 engineering vehicles BAE Systems will deliver, in partnership with Ritek and the Norwegian Defense Materiel Agency.

The U.S. Defence Security Cooperation Agency on May 19 announced that the State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Egypt of TOW 2A Radio Frequency (RF) Missiles, Support, and related equipment for an estimated cost of $691 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale.

The United States announced on May 19 that another tranche of presidential drawdown support is headed to Ukraine. The latest package is worth $100 million and mostly includes more of the same items the U.S. has sent to Ukraine in the past. C. Todd Lopez, U.S. Department of Defense, reports. The new U.S. military aid for Ukraine includes M777 155mm towed howitzers and  AN/TPQ-36 counter-artillery radars.
