|Design and protection|
The design of the T-72B1MS White Eagle is similar to the original T-72 divided into three compartments with driver position at the front, turret in the center, and the power pack at the rear. This tank has a crew of three with a driver, commander and gunner located in the turret on the right and left side. The turret has conventional cast armor with a maximum thickness of 280 mm, the nose is about 80 mm thick and the glacis is of new laminate armor 200 mm thick, which when inclined gives between 500 and 600 mm of protection. To increase protection against HEAT (High-Explosive Anti-Tank) ammunition, the tank is fitted with the Kontakt-1 Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA) mounted on each side of the hull and around the turret. The T-72B1MS can be also fitted with wire cage armor mounted at the rear and on the side of the turret to offer more protection against anti-tank rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attacks.
