A picture published in Thai online social media on May 28, 2021, shows Norinco VN16 amphibious light tanks being unloaded at Sattahip naval base (Chon Buri Province), in Thailand. Three VN16s were delivered, according to Defense Studies. The vehicles have the camouflage pattern of the Royal Thai Marine Corps.

On May 28, the U.S. DoD published (written by David Vergun) information about the fiscal year 2022 Defense Department budget request that includes the largest-ever research, development, test and evaluation request — $112 billion, which is a 5.1% increase over fiscal 2021. It also includes $27.7 billion for nuclear triad modernization. The budget totals $752.9 billion. It includes $37.9 billion for the Department of Energy and other agencies. It reflects a 1.6% increase from the fiscal 2021 enacted budget.

German company Rheinmetall selected the Cook Defence Systems TR40 track for the LYNX KF41 Infantry Fighting Vehicles for the Australian Army as part of Rheinmetall’s bid for LAND 400 Phase 3. Similar TR40 tracks are in service on the British Army’s next-generation AJAX vehicles being built by General Dynamics UK.

RAF Regiment and U.S. Army personnel have conducted a joint training day in Romania to share and better understand capabilities and tactics, the Royal Air Force reports on its website. The RAF Regiment gunners are currently deployed at the Romanian Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, as part of Operation Biloxi. Their role is to provide Force Protection to 121 Expeditionary Air Wing which is currently conducting the NATO enhanced Air Policing mission.

Rosoboronexport company of the Rostec State Corporation will supply modernized compact 9 mm SR.3M assault rifles to a foreign partner. The weapon is developed at the Central Scientific and Research Institute for Precision Machine Engineering (TSNIITOCHMASH). It comes fitted with a removable silencer, an optical sight and is intended for arming special forces.

The U.S. Department of Defense announced on May 26 that Oshkosh Defense was awarded a $26,067,335 firm-fixed-price contract for procurement of M978A4 Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck Tankers, M984A4 Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck Wreckers and M1070A1 Heavy Equipment Transporters. Fiscal 2010 Foreign Military Sales (Egypt) funds in the amount of $26,067,335 were obligated at the time of the award.

Building on the strong international NATO cooperation within the Ground-Based domain, as well as strategic bi-lateral defence ties, the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA) has signed an agreement with the Netherlands Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) for the acquisition of five Thales Ground Master 200 Multi-Mission Compact radars (GM200 MM/C). In early May, the Australian Army started operational test and evaluation of the man-portable multi-role Saab Carl-Gustaf M4 system at the Army’s School of Infantry in Singleton, New South Wales, Defense Studies reports.
