MDT Armor was awarded a contract for procurement of David Urban Light Armored Combat Vehicles

According to a contract published by the United States Department of Defense (DoD) on July 8, 2021, MDT Armor Corp.,* Auburn, Alabama, was awarded a $9,982,848 firm-fixed-price contract for procurement of the David Urban Light Armored Combat Vehicles.

The David Urban Light Armored Combat Vehicle is based on a LandRover Defender 4x4 wheeled chassis and is built in MDT Armor’s Alabama facility. The vehicle is designed to offer armor protection against the firing of small arms and IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) explosions. The vehicle is in service with the Israeli armed forces (IDF). 

The IDF’s version is built on top of a Land Rover Defender chassis, and a 122 bhp, 2.5L turbocharged diesel engine. Much shorter, lighter, and narrower than an up-armored Hummer in order to negotiate narrow urban streets and alleys, the 3.7 ton David external link nonetheless carries 4-6 soldiers in full battle gear, with headroom and gun ports in all 4 directions. Large rear doors and a tall cabin, meanwhile, allow fast exits.

The David armored vehicle is based on an armored capsule that can be mounted on a civilian chassis of a Toyota land Cruiser, Hilux, or Land Rover pickup truck.  the vehicle has been in service in combat conditions for over 10 years. hundred have been fielded, with daily combat activity. It has come under terror attacks ranging from rock and stones to assault weapons and improvised devices. It has proven itself, saving the lives of numerous operators, time and time again. 

The David armored vehicle can be configured with numerous seating arrangements. rear area configuration includes forward or aft-facing seats, or face-to-face seating, of 4, 6, or 8 passengers. The vehicle is fitted with three doors allowing rapid in-out operation, and an optional roof hatch allows for mounting a variety of weapons and equipment. With the litter option, a stretcher can be placed above folding seats, to allow recovery in battle. Situation awareness is achieved with six windows, a single pane windshield, windows in each of the two side doors and sidewalls, and one rear side window.
