However in this case the radar will be fully integrated with Kelvin Hughes’ MantaDigitalTM widescreen ECDIS.

The MantaDigitalTM ECDIS provides an easy-to-use, safe and efficient navigational tool and has been developed in response to the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) mandatory digital carriage requirements for ECDIS.

It is expected that the first retrofit of the tactical radar and ECDIS package will be installed on the L.E Aisling in August this year.

A spokesman for the Irish Naval Service said: “With the award of this contract, the Irish Naval Service continues to have a successful relationship with Kelvin Hughes as a provider of Navigation and Radar systems.”

Rohan Dearlove, Naval Business Development Manager for Kelvin Hughes, added: “We are proud of our long association with the Irish Naval Service.

“This latest procurement is particularly important to us, as it re-establishes Kelvin Hughes as the Naval Service’s supplier of choice for radar and electronic chart systems.

“The Naval Service will benefit from the enhanced performance and functionality provided as standard with our latest generation MantaDigitalTM Naval Radar and ECDIS.”
