The Australian MoD announces that soldiers of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) depart Darwin for the United Kingdom this week to join partner nations in providing critical training to Ukrainian recruits. A contingent of up to 70 ADF personnel will deploy as part of ADF Operation Kudu to assist with the UK-led and based training program, supporting Ukraine's defence in response to Russia’s illegal invasion.

The foundation stone has been laid for the new Rheinmetall plant in Várpalota, Hungary, where ammunition for various systems will be produced by the joint venture Rheinmetall Hungary Munitions in cooperation with the Hungarian state. Production of 33mm-medium-calibre ammunition for the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle now being manufactured at the Rheinmetall plant in Zalaegerszeg is scheduled to start in 2024.

According to a statement published by the British Government on January 16, 2023, the United Kingdom had already announced the delivery of Challenger 2 MBTs (Main Battle Tanks) and AS90 155mm tracked self-propelled howitzers as well as a hundred combat armored vehicles including the Bulldog, an upgraded version of the tracked APC FV432 (Armored Personnel Carrier).

Six Tor-M2K air defense missile systems delivered by Russia entered service with an air defense missile brigade of the Belarusian Armed Forces, the Belarusian Defense Ministry said: “Today (January 16), servicemen of military unit 30151 [the 15th air defense missile brigade of the Belarusian Air Force and Air Defense] have received a squadron of Tor-M2K air defense missile systems. Six new unique combat vehicles, which have no world analogs, have come in service with the brigade. The new weapon has been presented to the strategically vital brigade,” it said.

Soldiers from U.S. 21st TSC’s 260th Movement Control Team, in coordination with the 598th Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, host nation support and commercial organizations, discharged the vehicles and equipment, efficiently executing its reception, staging and onward movement. According to Patrick Ilunga in theeastafrican.co.ke, the Democratic Republic of Congo has received military equipment from Turkey, just under three months after the UN arms embargo was lifted, enabling Congo to purchase weapons from the global market.

The U.S. Department of Defense on January 13 announced that Oshkosh Defense LLC, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, was awarded a $141,018,624 firm-fixed-price contract for A2 Medium Tactical Trucks and Medium Tactical Trailers. Bids were solicited via the internet with two received. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of Nov. 30, 2024. U.S. Army Contracting Command, Detroit Arsenal, Michigan, is the contracting activity.

UPDATE:  The UK Defense Ministry has denied any plans to send Apache attack helicopters to Ukraine as reported by British media, Sky news correspondent Deborah Haynes said on January 15, 2023. According to information published by the British news websites "Mirror, Page removed on January 15, 2023" and the "Daily Star", United Kingdome will provide Ukraine with up to four AH-64 Apache attack helicopters that were built to destroy main battle tanks and armored vehicles using AGM-114 Hellfire anti-tank guided missiles and Hydra 70 rockets.

In a tweet posted on January 12, the DGA (French Defence Procurement Agency) announced it notified MBDA of the order for 200 Akeron MP medium-range anti-tank missiles (formerly designated MMP), in accordance with the LPM 2019-2025. In 2022, 200 Akeron MP missiles were received by the DGA and delivered to the joint munitions service (SIMu).
