In May 2017, Denmark signed a contract with the French company Nexter Systems for the acquisition of 15 CAESAR 155mm self-propelled howitzers in 8x8 configuration, and in October 2019, Denmark approved another contract to purchase four additional CAESAR howitzers.

Citing the information from Danish Defense Minister Jakob Ellemann-Jense, the French-made CAESAR 8x8 howitzers are not yet delivered to the Danish army but will be sent to Ukraine. The decision to deliver the Danish CAESAR howitzers to Ukraine is a response to the needs of the Ukrainian armed forces in terms of artillery weapons.

Currently, the Ukrainian army has already received from France 18 CAESAR in 6x6 configuration and six more CAESAR howitzers will be supplied in the next few weeks.

The CAESAR in 6x6 and 8x8 configurations use the same artillery weapon system consisting of one 155mm/L52 52 caliber gun that can fire a wide range of 155mm ammunition including LU family (HE, Illuminating, Smoke and Practice), practice ammunition, M107 (High Explosive), M485A2 (Illuminating).

One of the key features of the 8x8 version of the CAESAR is the integration of a fully automatic loading system offering a maximum rate of fire of 6 rounds per minute. Both CAESAR howitzers are also capable to fire new GPS-guided artillery ammunition at a range of up to 50 km.

The CAESAR 8x8 is based on a military-modified truck chassis T-815 designed and built by the Czech company TATRA while the 6x6 version is based on French-made Sherpa 6x6 truck chassis designed and manufactured by the French company ARQUUS.
