On Monday, January 3, President Joe Biden signed into law the $777 billion National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for the fiscal year 2022, funding the U.S. military for the upcoming year, Trevor Filseth reports in The National Interest. The new law provides the Pentagon with its largest annual budget in history, including $24 billion more than the Department of Defense had requested. The Defense Department’s previous largest budget was passed in July 2020, giving it $740 billion.

On January 6, the Headquarters of the U.S. Marine Corps announced that the Marine Corps Amphibious Combat Vehicles are set to return to unrestricted waterborne operations following the development of a new tow rope solution designed to address previous issues with the vehicle’s towing mechanism. In September 2021, the Marine Corps suspended ACV operations in unprotected waters while it worked to resolve the towing issues that were identified in several after-action reports from the field.

On December 23, 2021, Dutch truck manufacturer DAF announced that, following on from its previous order for 879 all-wheel-drive CF Military trucks, the Belgian Defence has placed a new order at DAF for 9 heavy tractor/trailer combinations for the safe and swift recovery of vehicles in zones of operations and conflict. The vehicles are scheduled to be delivered in 2024.

Last December 2, Rostec announced that Uralvagonzavod had sent a batch of T-72B3M tanks to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The tanks have passed a full range of tests, accepted by the customer in accordance with the requirements of the normative and technical documentation and the terms of the contract.

According to information released on January 6, 2022, Arnold Defense, St. Louis based manufacturer of 70mm/2.75-inch rocket launchers, together with Thales, have achieved formal certification to fire the new Thales FZ275 70mm/2.75-inch Laser Guided Rocket (LGR) from the Arnold Defense LAND-LGR4 “FLETCHER” rocket launcher, during recent testing in Sweden.

According to ssusa.org, Winchester has announced that the U.S. Army awarded the company cost-plus and firm-fixed-price contracts totaling $20 million for the 6.8 mm Next Generation Squad Weapons (NGSW) program. The contracts specify ammunition development, manufacturing facility requirements analysis and production capacity planning.

According to information published by the Russian press agency TASS, on December 30, 2021, the Russian company Uraltransmash, a subdivision of Uralvagonzavod, a manufacturer of combat vehicles, has delivered 2S3M Akatsiya 152mm howitzers to Belarus. The 2S3M is an upgraded version of the Soviet-made 2S3, a 152mm tracked self-propelled howitzer.

According to DefenceTurk, the acceptance activities of the X-Band Satellite Communication System (TUMSIS) Mobile Satellite Terminal developed by ASELSAN were completed on 19 November 2021. Developed under the leadership of the Presidency of Defense Industries, the Mobile Satellite Terminal is an ASELSAN designed Satellite Communication Terminal integrated on the Cobra-II armored vehicle, providing voice and data/video communication while the vehicle is in motion.

According to Total Croatia News, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said in a Twitter post on Monday, January 3, that a meeting was held with Defense Minister Mario Banožić and representatives of the Defense Ministry and the Armed Forces regarding the U.S. offer to equip the Croatian Army with the Bradley infantry fighting vehicles in M2A2 ODS version.
