On January 14, 2023, the Army Recognition team reported that the French Ministry of Defense Sébastien Lecornu agreed on the delivery of the first anti-tank armored vehicles AMX-10RC to the Ukrainian army that would take place within two months.

Unlike its role as an armored reconnaissance vehicle in the French armed forces, the AMX-10RC will serve as an anti-tank system for Ukrainian troops. This is due to its 105mm gun, which is equivalent to the gun mounted on the Leopard 1 tank.

In the French army, the AMX-10RC is considered as a reconnaissance anti-tank armored vehicle, but it has significant anti-tank capability due to its 105mm main gun which can fire a range of anti-tank ammunition types, including high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) rounds and armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot (APFSDS) rounds.

The HEAT ammunition is specifically designed to penetrate armor, typically used against tanks or other armored vehicles. HEAT ammunition works by creating a high-pressure explosion that forms a focused jet of molten metal, which can penetrate armor plates. The APFSDS is a type of kinetic energy ammunition designed to penetrate armor, typically used against heavily armored targets such as tanks.

The AMX-10RC's firing range can vary depending on the ammunition used and the specific conditions of the engagement. However, its 105mm main gun typically has an effective range of up to 2,500 meters (8,200 feet) against armored targets, and up to 4,000 meters (13,000 feet) against softer targets such as buildings or vehicles.

According to our information, the Ukrainian army should receive AMX-10RCR, an upgraded version of the AMX-10RC featuring several improvements such as as new fire control system and armor package. It is being carried out in the three traditional key areas of survivability, mobility, and firepower, plus digitalization.

The AMX-10RCR is fitted with new add-on armor composed of steel plates which provide additional protection against small arms fire and anti-tank ammunition. The rear part of the turret has been extended to provide additional space for equipment.
