Russian armored platform K-17 Bumerang can carry foreign combat modules

During the Army-2020 defense forum, the Military Industrial Company showcased the K-17 infantry fighting vehicle variant. Russia’s latest Bumerang armored platform, designed by the Military Industrial Company, can be equipped with foreign-made combat modules, the company’s Director General Alexander Krasovitsky told TASS. "We see the possibility of equipping Bumerang chassis with foreign-made combat modules, we see no problem about this. Naturally, a foreign module should be adjusted with the participation of our specialists," he said in the run-up to an international defense exhibition, IDEX 2021, to be held in UAE’s Abu Dhabi on February 21-25.

In his words, potential foreign customers demonstrated their interest in Bumerang shortly after first information about the new vehicle was published : "During the Army-202 forum, the platform, in the variant of the K-17 infantry fighting vehicle, was showcased at our company’s display. There, we provided extensive information about it and gave an opportunity to examine both the model’s exterior and interior," he said.

The Bumerang is the latest standardized wheeled platform for multiservice forces developed by the Military Industrial Company. The platform was used as the basis for developing the K-16 armored personnel carrier, and also the K-17 infantry fighting vehicle publicly unveiled at the Victory Day Parade on Moscow’s Red Square in 2015.

The combat vehicle’s baseline version is outfitted with the Epokha combat module with a 30mm automatic gun and a coaxial 7.62mm machine-gun and the Kornet anti-tank missile system. The K-16 armored personnel carrier is armed with a combat module with a 12.7mm machine-gun.
