PT Pindad’s 6x6 APC Anoa-2 was first presented to the public in 2010. This is an improved version of the Anoa basic vehicle designed in 2003 amid the worsening military situation in the Aceh province. The vehicle is named after the Anoa, which is a type of buffalo indigenous to Indonesia. The Anoa had been officially unveiled to the public under the designation APS-3 (Indonesian: Angkut Personel Sedang, English: Medium Personnel Carrier) at the Indo Defence & Aerospace 2008 exhibition from November 19 to November 22, 2008, after being shown in a TNI parade on October 5, 2008. On August 30, 2008, 10 APS-3s had been produced with the plan of having 150 vehicles to be produced for the Indonesian Army in time for their first deployment in 2009.

Anoa-2, the new version, is fitted with a turret (or an RCWS), and an improved intercom system. The APC can accommodate ten servicemen, including driver and vehicle commander.

On December 8, PT Pindad proceeded to a live test: Anoa-2 was detonated on an 8kg TNT charge at one of the local test sites. This was part of the foreseen list of tests imposed on the prototype phase of the vehicle. The vehicle has proven its ability to guarantee the safety of passengers when exposed to the specified amount of explosives and is now able to obtain a certificate of fitness for use.

The next step consists in the implementation of industrial production and the supply to users.
