The Flyer Advanced Light Strike Vehicle was developed to fill operational gaps in fixed and rotary wing ground mobility deployment requiring a lightweight, mobile, air transportable vehicle capable of being rapidly reconfigured for a variety of mission needs. The vehicle is designed and manufactured by the Defense Company General Dynamics Ordnance Tactical systems. The Flyer is a mature, highly mobile platform, with a payload capacity of up to 1,600 kg and meets all internal transport requirements for the V-22 Osprey. Capable of being either internally and externally transportable in the V-22, CH-53, C-130 and C-5 aircraft. The Flyer vehicle can move to and from the event location with a higher payload capacity and increased range over traditional transport capabilities. The Flyer was designed to answer a need by U.S. Special Operations Forces to have a lightweight, mobile platform that could be transported by air and be configured for a variety of missions. At AUSA 2013, General Dynamics has announced a contract for the delivery of Flyer vehicle to the U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) for non-developmental V-22 Internally Transportable Vehicles (ITV). The three-year indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract is for up to 10 vehicles, with integration and logistical support and training. |

The armored version of the Flyer also protects against hand grenades, unexploded artillery fragmenting sub-munitions, and other small anti-personnel explosive devices detonated under the vehicle. The vehicle is able to carry four soldiers, two at the front and two at the rear. The Flyer can quickly reconfigure in the field, to perform multiple missions such as light strike assault, rescue and evacuation, command and control, and reconnaissance, either armored or unarmored. The vehicle can also carry up to a five patient litter on the top of the tubular structure. | Mobility | The Flyer is based on HUMVEE parts as differentials, steering rod ends, tie down rings, light system, alternator, batteries, suspension ball joints, air compressor and tires. The Flyer is motorized with a Diesel engine 1.9L developing 150 hp. with six speed power train, cooling, brake and fuel systems with a low fuel consumption rate of 24 mpg when traveling at 65 km/h. The engine is mounted at the rear of the vehicle. The Flyer can run at a maximum road speed of 135 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 725 km. The vehicle is able to negotiate slopes up to 60%, side slopes to 40% and cross a water obstacle of 76 cm deep maximum. | Accessories | Two large storage boxes are mounted on each side of the Flyer.
