Description
The Flyer 60 so named because it’s 60 inches wide, is the short version of the Flyer Advanced Light Strike Vehicle designed, developed and manufactured in partnership with Flyer Defense LLC, for the U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) Ground Mobility Vehicle Program. The Flyer® 60 vehicle was developed to fill operational gaps in fixed and rotary wing ground mobility deployment requiring a lightweight, mobile, air transportable vehicle capable of being rapidly reconfigured for a variety of mission needs. The Flyer 60 is a modular and mobile vehicle that traverses severe, rugged and restrictive terrain while providing off-road, cross-country mobility in all types of weather. Easily and rapidly reconfigured in the field, the Flyer 60 can be used for a variety of combat and humanitarian efforts including light assault, search and rescue, command and control and reconnaissance missions. Its modular, armored design allows it to meet an array of threat levels and environmental conditions without vehicle modifications. On 21 October 2013, General Dynamics was awarded a SOCOM contract for non-developmental V-22 Internally Transportable Vehicles (ITV). The three-year indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract is for up to 10 vehicles, with integration and logistical support and training. The total value of the contract is $5.8 million if all options are exercised.

Variants:
- Flyer 60 armoured: is based on the flyer 60 but can be fitted with armour kit
- Flyer 72: is based on the flyer 60 but with a longer chassis. It can be configured to transport up to 9 soldiers

Design and protection
Flyer 60 is a Non-Developmental Item (NDI) containing 80% COTS and HWMVV platforms. The Flyer 60 uses an open-top architecture with no windows at the front and on each side of the vehicle. The vehicle is based on a tubular space frame chassis. The crew is protected by a tubular frame roll-bar. The Flyer-60 is a mature, highly mobile platform, with a weight of 4,500 pounds (2,040 kg) and a payload capacity of up to 3,500 pounds (1,588 kg) and meets all internal transport requirements for the V-22 Osprey. The Flyer 60 can carry 4 military personnel with two seats at the front and three seats at the rear, including the gunner position.
Mobility
The Flyer 60 is motorized with a diesel engine 1.9L 195 hp. six-speed power train, cooling, brake and fuel systems with a low fuel consumption rate of 24 mpg when traveling at 40 mph (65 km/h) located at the rear of the vehicle. The engine is coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission system that generates a power of 150 hp and a torque of 350 Nm. Flyer 60 offers safe and fast operating speeds with superior levels of mobility and maneuverability. It’s highly adaptable to severe, rugged and restrictive terrains while providing off-road, cross-country mobility in all types of weather conditions. The Flyer 60 maximizes the use of HWMVV NSN parts such as: differentials, steering rod ends, tie-down rings, light system, alternator, batteries, suspension ball joints, air compressor and tires. The Flyer 60 can run at a maximum speed of 65 mph (105 km/h) with a maximum cruising range of 350 miles (565 km). The vehicle can cross a vertical step of 35.5 cm and can ford a depth of 0.76 m without preparation.
