Park Jae-hyuk reports in The Korea Times that Hanwha Defense appears to be going all out to win a $18 billion contract to supply AS21 Redback infantry fighting vehicles to Australia, where it is set to build its factory to produce the K9 Thunder self-propelled howitzer, according to industry officials. Hanwha Defense is expected to accelerate its efforts to convince the Australian government to choose its Redback over Rheinmetall’s Lynx KF41 for the LAND 400 Phase 3 infantry fighting vehicle project.

The U.S. Department of Defense announced on April 8 that Lockheed Martin is being awarded a $74,085,614 modification to a previously-awarded contract (HQ0147-17-C-0032) for the production of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) ground equipment to support the U.S. government. The total maximum ceiling value of this contract is increased from $7,760,614,995 to $7,834,700,609.

A new version of the Pinaka rocket system has been successfully flight-tested by the DRDO and the Indian Army at the Pokhran firing ranges, the Defence ministry said on April 9, echoed by The Hindu: as many as 24 Pinaka Mk-I (Enhanced) Rocket Systems (EPRS) were fired for different ranges during the last fortnight and the weapons met the required accuracy and consistency, it said.

The Boxer success story continues. The British government, represented by the European procurement organization OCCAR, and ARTEC, a consortium of Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), have signed a contract extension to supply the British Army with an additional 100 Boxer wheeled armoured vehicles. The contract encompasses three previously ordered variants of the Boxer: the infantry carrier, the command vehicle and the field ambulance.

On April 8, the Ministry of Defence officially confirms that the Slovak Republic provided Ukraine with S-300 PMU air defense systems. This comes in reaction to the request of Ukraine for assistance in its exercise of self-defense in line with Article 51 of the UN Charter as a direct consequence of the armed aggression by Russia. The Slovak donation is the first known case of a country sending such a powerful air defense system to Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24.
