According to a statement published by the Canadian Ministry of Defense on April 22, 2022, Canada provides an undisclosed number of M777 towed howitzers and associated ammunition to the armed forces of Ukraine. While this equipment comes from the inventory of the Canadian Armed Forces, the capability will be replenished.

President Vladimir Putin announced on April 20 that his country successfully test-launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with the potential to carry a large nuclear payload, but the Pentagon said it was not a significant threat to the United States, just routine. Putin was shown on TV being told by the military that the long-awaited RS-28 Sarmat missile had been test-launched for the first time from Plesetsk in northwest Russia and hit targets in the Kamchatka peninsula, nearly 6,000 km (3,700 miles) away.

On April 21, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) announced the authorization of a Presidential Drawdown of security assistance valued at up to an additional $800 million tailored to meet critical Ukrainian needs for today's fight as Russian forces launch a renewed offensive in eastern Ukraine. At the Pentagon on April 20 for a meeting with Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said his country will increase its defense spending to 3% of gross domestic product, David Vergun, of U.S. DoD, reports.
