New military version of Toyota Hilux pickup to enter in service with Czech army


According to a Tweet of the Czech Ministry of Defense published on April 1, 2021, the first new Toyota Hilux will be delivered to the Czech army at the beginning of the summer. The contract was signed on March 2021.

In November 2020, Army Recognition has announced that the Czech Army has the Toyota Hilux in pickup version to replace the UAZ-469 and Land Rover 4x4 light tactical vehicles in service with the Czech armed forces.

According to military sources, Czech armed forces have a total of 661 Land Rover Defender 110, 79 Land Rover Defender 130, and 630 UAZ-469, a Soviet-made 4x4 light tactical vehicle.

Today, the new Toyota Hilux has passed all the controls test and is now ready to conduct the first military trials. The Toyota Hilux is an SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) designed and manufactured by the Japanese automobile producer Toyota. The Toyota Hilux for the Czech will a militarized version produced by the Czech company Glomex MS according to the needs and requirements of the Czech army.

The Czech Army plans to acquire a total of 1,200 Toyota Hilux in a pickup version which is able to accommodate up to five military personnel.
