HSW from Poland will deliver 24 Krab 155mm self-propelled howitzers to Polish Army.
The Polish Company Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW) has signed a contract for the delivery of artillery vehicles to the Polish Army for a total amount of €1 billion including 24 Krab 155mm self-propelled howitzer armoured vehicles.

This is one of the largest contract in the history of Poland's defence industry, according to Arkadiusz Siwko, CEO of the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), of which HSW is a subsidiary.

The first vehicles should be delivered in 2018.

The 155mm self-propelled howitzer Krab is designed an manufactured by the Polish Company Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW). The first prototype of the Krab was completed in 2001.

The latest version of the Krab is based on the chassis of the South Korean K9 self-propelled howitzer fited with an a AS-90M Braveheart turret with 52-calibre gun and WB Electronics “Topaz” artillery fire control system.

The AS90 Braveheart is a 155mm self-propelled howitzer which entered service with the British Army in 1992. It is manufactured by BAE Systems Land Systems (RO Defence and formerly the Armaments Division of Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering Ltd) at Barrow-in-Furness, in Cumbria.

The Krab is fitted with a turret mounted at the rear of the vehicle. Main armament consists of one 155mm/52 calibre gun. which has a maximum range of 40km. The vehicle can carried a total of 40 rounds of ammunition that are stored inside the turret and chassis.
