More than 45% of the Russian Strategic Nuclear Forces will be equipped with new weapons.

Four divisions and one regiment of the Russian army will be equipped with Yars RS-24 missiles and two brigades will receive Iskander tactical missiles in 2014, announced Tuesday, December 10, 2013 the Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu.

     
     

"Our goal for 2014 is to provide a regiment and four divisions of Russian Army Strategic Missile Troops with Yars RS-24 mobile missile systems, Iskander missiles for two brigades, fighter aircraft Sukhoi Su-34 to a mixed regiment of Russian Air Force and Yakovlev Yak-130 traning aircraft to one training air base, "said M.Choïgou during a meeting at the Ministry of Defense.

According to the minister, two nuclear submarines will be aslo delivered to the Russian Navy in 2014.

More than 45% of the Russian strategic nuclear forces will be fully equipped with new weapons and equipment.

The Yars RS-24 Is a Russian-made mobile nuclear intercontinental ballistic missile which can be mounted on truck carrier or deployed in silos. The missile RS-24 is a three-stage, solid propellant, MIRV-capable (Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicles) ICBM (InterContinental Ballistic Missile) with a range of 10,500 km. The missile uses a guidance upgraded system of the inertial and Glonass system used in the RS-12M2 (Topol-M SS-27) missile.

Iskander Missile SS-26 Stone is a short range tactical missile system developed and produced in Russia.
The Transporter-Erector-Launcher (TEL) is based on the new BAZ6909 eight wheeled truck chassis. The missile is designed for mobile, autonomous operation and is capable of striking point and area targets at ranges of 50 – 280 km. The missile can carry conventional warheads, cluster bombs splinter munitions and allows for precision-strike operations.
