Indonesian army Garuda Contingent to join the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon UNIFIL.
Indonesia military departed the first batch of Garuda Contingent (Konga) to Lebanon, assigned to join the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission in that country, a statement released by Konga task force said here on Monday, December 3, 2012.

Some 241 Indonesian peacekeeping troops joined in the first batch departure were transported to Rafiq Hariri airport in Lebanon on Sunday morning, using particular plane chartered by UN from Halim Perdanakusumah airport in the capital city.

They consisted of mechanical, medical battalions and military police personnel among others. They will be assigned for one-year service period in Lebanon, the statement said.

Indonesia will depart a total of 1,169 peacekeeping troops to join UNIFIL in Lebanon.

UNIFIL troops are working on the ground on the basis of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701, in collaboration with the Lebanese Army. UNSC Resolution 1701 was introduced to end the summer war with Israel in 2006, and it also led to UNIFIL troop numbers being boosted. There are currently 11,583 peacekeepers stationed in southern Lebanon, from 37 different countries.
