Defence industry of Azerbaijan will produce lot of new weapons in 2013.
Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense Industry designed several small arms this year. Informing APA about new weapons, Azerbaijani Minister of Defense Industry Yavar Jamalov said that one of them was a sniper rifle with 7.62x51 caliber designed in accordance with NATO standards. Shooting distance of the new sniper rifle is 1000 m, capacity of charger – 10 cartridges and weight – 7.1 kg.

The second weapon is sniper rifle “Yalguzag. The shooting distance of this sniper rifle designed for special operation and intelligences is 1000 m, weight 7 kg and length – 1080 mm.

Jamalov said that 14.5 mm caliber - “Istiglal” anti-material sniper rifle was improved. As a result of the improvement, the weight of the weapon reduced 35 kg to 28. Several technical changes have been also made to the weapon.

“Currently we are working on the 23mm sniper rifle. This weapon will likely be ready in the first half of 2013. After that we will start series production of that weapon,” minister added.

Jamalov said portable single-barrel, double-barrel and three-barrel rocket launchers for battles in the mountainous areas were made in the local facilities.

Minister said the shooting distance of 60 and 82mm mine throwers produced in Azerbaijan has been extended. According to him, previous 60mm mine throwers could hit targets 1600 m away, 82mm mine throwers 2500 m away, now 60mm mine throwers can hit targets 4000 m away, 82mm mine throwers 5000 m away.
