He also lauded growing military cooperation between the two neighboring states, and called for more meetings and talks between Iranian and Qatari commanders and defense officials.

The Qatari General further stressed that Doha is ready to boost ties with Tehran in all areas of military and defense, including the transfer of experience, training and joint exercises.

During the meeting, also attended by Iran's Ambassador to Doha Abdollah Sohrabi and a number of Qatari officials and military commanders, General Nasseri referred to various geographical, religious and cultural commonalities between Iran and Qatar and noted Tehran's efforts to promote bilateral relations.

Nasseri said Iranian-Qatari ties could set an example for close, brotherly relations between all Persian Gulf states, which would boost security and stability in the strategic region.

"The Islamic Republic is fully prepared for the implementation of defense cooperation agreements, and hosting and dispatching military delegations," he stressed.

IRGC Navy dispatched a fleet of warships to Qatar as part of the two countries' plans for expanding defense ties and cooperation.

Earlier, Lieutenant Commander of the IRGC Naval Forces Alireza Tangsiri said, "The measure was actually adopted in response to the participation of a number of Qatari military commanders in Payambar-e Azam (The Great Messenger 5) regional drills of the IRGC and it will pave the ground for boosting mutual cooperation,"

The IRGC was appointed to defend the Persian Gulf security in 2008. The Iranian army has been tasked with controlling the Sea of Oman and the Caspian Sea, while the full responsibility for defending the Persian Gulf security has been entrusted to the IRGC.
