The WS-1 is a Chinese-made 302mm Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) is an advanced rocket system characterized by long range, fast response, high accuracy, easy operation and maintenance. The WS-1 MLRS is mainly used to make a destructive attack on the enemy's area targets in depth, such as military bases, airports, mass fleet, a hub of communication, political and economical centers, industry bases and other important military area targets. The WS-1 family vehicles was developed, designed and manufactured by the China National Precision Machinery Corporation (CPMIEC), based in Beijing, China. The WS-1 may be ready to fire in less than 20 minutes. |
Armament | The rockets launcher system is mounted at the rear of a wheeled truck chassis with four tubes in two lines. The four-round launcher is mounted on a turntable at the rear of the chassis and has powered traverse and elevation. In firing position, four hydraulically operated stabilisers are lowered to the ground; these are positioned one either side at the rear of the truck and one to each side of the chassis near the cabin crew. | Rockets | The rocket used by the WS-1 is 4.7 meters in length, weighs approx. 524 kg and is provided with 150 kg of cluster munitions to take out a variety of targets such as fortifications, infrastructure, armored vehicles, etc. The WS-1 is powered by a solid rocket motor flies at Mach 3.6 and has a minimum range of 30 kilometers. Four types of warhead can be fitted on the WS-1 rocket: blast fragmentation, incendiary blast fragmentation, fuel air explosive and anti-personnel & armor-piercing dual-purpose. The ZDB-2 blasting warhead is loaded with steel balls and prefabricated fragments. The SZB-1 submunition warhead is designed to destroy large area targets such as armour formation and infantry troops. When the SZB-1 submunition warhead detonates, around 500 bullets are expelled under high pressure. | Mobility | The four-tube launcher is carried on a Mercedes-Benz 6x6 truck chassis which is maunfactured under license in China by China North Industries Corporation. To the immediate rear of the cab is a fully enclosed cabin for additional crew members. The WS-1 can also use the MF-4 launch truck which is based on a Chinese indigenous 6X6 truck chassis. The HF-4 launch truck is based on the more capable Tiema XC2200 6X6 truck. | Accessories | The WS-1 truck is equipped with a digital computer system which provides fire direction and positioning to give the system an accuracy of 1% of the range to the target. | System configuration | Typical configuration for one MLRS WS-1 battery is as follows: - 1 Command vehicle (DZ-88B) - 6 or 9 launcher vehicles - 6 or 9 loading and transportation vehicles (QY-88) - 1 Meteorological measuring vehicle (Type 702) - 40/60 rocekts for each launcher vehicle | | Specifications | Back to top | Armament | 4 launch tubes 302 mm calibre | Country users | China, Thailand and Turkey. | Crew | ? soldiers | Accessories | Digital firing computer system | Weight rocket | 524 kg | Firing Range | 40 - 100 km | | Truck | Modified Mercedes-Benz 6x6 | Weight vehicle | ? | Speed Truck | 80 km/h | Range Truck | 800 km | Armor | No armor protection | Engine truck | ? | | | | |
