Jackal 1 Supacat
Wheeled 4x4 Protected Patrol Vehicle - United Kingdom
Description
The Jackal 1 4x4, is a weapons-mounted patrol vehicle purchased by the United Kingdom under a June 2007 Urgent Operational Requirement (UOR) for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. It performs a long-range surveillance and reconnaissance role and supplements but does not replace the Land Rover fleet. The vehicle is manufactured by Babcock Marine from a Supacat Ltd design. Compared to other similar vehicles fielded by the United Kingdom Armed Forces, the Jackal drive tactical vehicle will offer greater firepower, payload, range and mobility. The UK Ministry of Defense purchased 130 MWMIK/Jackal vehicles to supplement Land Rover-based vehicles to be deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan beginning in early 2008. As of April 2008, the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) plans call for the procurement of 200 vehicles.
