Eurosatory 2018: Navantia and TPL present the latest generation in optical communications
Navantia, is promoting Torrey Pines Logic’s latest generation of the LightSpeed R50 optical communication system, in a handheld device. Such communication devices are ideal for security services, in emergency situations, as they do not allow the easy interception of communications and do not require any hardwear connections.

The LightSpeed R50 uses an eye-safe IR LED (not a laser). This allows for voice communication of 16-64 Kpbs and data (including video) transfer with a speed up to 20 Mbps, at distances up to seven kilometres. Communication is bi-directional and is not limited by the atmospheric conditions, such as fog. As Army Recognition has found, the system has been sold to the Spanish Ministry of Interior.
