Russia: T14 Armata MBT high price does not affect UVZ operations


Statements about a high price of T-14 Armata mai battle tank did not affect production plans of Uralvagonzavod Corporation (UVZ) which designed and produces the vehicle, UVZ spokesman Dmitry Kalinichenko said.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said Armata and K-17 Boomerang IFV were very expensive against existing ones and will be procured when current armor cedes to potential adversary. The statement triggered media reports UVZ will cut Armata production. "The statements did not affect UVZ operations which continue in the previous regime according to the signed contracts," Kalinichenko said adding the corporation produces most of the armor for the Ground forces.

It was reported that the Defense Ministry plans to buy a hundred Armata up to 2020. T-14 tank on Armata platform was for the first time demonstrated in Moscow on May 9, 2015. It for the first time in the history of domestic tank industry has an unmanned turret and an isolated armored capsule for the crew.
