Akash is a locally designed air defense missile system. The problems with this missile bring into question India's drive to meet more of its defense needs from indigenous sources. The report comes after the Indian Army showed interest in going for the Israeli quick-reaction surface-to-air missiles (QRSAMs) instead of Akash. The Indian Army says it does not want any more Akash regiments.
