Two armoured trains will be used by Russian army in a logistical exercise.
Two armored trains of Russia’s railway forces will be involved in a logistical exercise for the first time in almost 15 years, a source in the Russian Southern Military District’s Headquarters told TASS. The maneuvers will take place near Volgograd in south Russia in mid-August, the source added.

"A special logistical exercise will take place on August 15 near Volgograd and involve the special trains Amur and Baikal of Southern Military District separate railway restoration battalions. The trains will take part in the exercise for the first time in 15 years," the source said.

"They will practice protecting and defending restored railroad bridges above water obstacles from a simulated enemy’s reconnaissance and sabotage groupings," the source said.

According to the source, the Armed Forces operated four armored trains. In the late 1990s, two of the trains were disbanded and deactivated.

As the source said, the remaining two trains based in Nevinnomyssk in the Stavropol Territory and in Volgograd are purposefully used.

As the source said, the trains can defend key railway facilities in wartime.

Each train is armed with two ZU-23 antiaircraft guns. It also carries a rifle platoon with organic weapons, including machine guns and grenade launchers, the source said.

According to the source, tanks and infantry fighting vehicles can be also mounted on the trains in wartime.
