"The Russian defense industry is developing a multifunctional NBCR protection UGV intended for the NBCR Protection Troops. We are planning to finish the development of the unmanned ground vehicle in 2017. If the UGV successfully passes the relevant trials, we will bring it into service. At the same, the full replacement of soldiers by unmanned vehicles in several types of operations, such as NBCR reconnaissance in emergency cases and special decontamination seems to be impossible," Cherkasov said.

He pointed out that the units equipped with UGVs are intended for operations in the most contaminated areas. The service is intensifying the cooperation with the Advanced Research Foundation (Russian acronym: FPI, Fond Perspektivnyh Issledovaniy) in the area of UGV development.
