Russia to open a workshop in West Siberia to assemble Angara carrier rocket.
A workshop to assemble Angara carrier rocket modules will be opened on the premises of the Polyot Enterprise in the Omsk Region in West Siberia in September, Regional Governor Viktor Nazarov said. The Polyot Enterprise is a subsidiary of Russia’s Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center.

"We will open a new assembly workshop on the premises of the Polyot Enterprise in September. We are expected to launch the production of the Angara carrier rocket by 2020. The workshop will assemble all the three types of the Angara carrier rocket," Nazarov said.

According to the governor, the enterprise’s equipment is undergoing upgrade to produce Angara carrier rocket modules.

"The Khrunichev Corporation will spend more than 7 billion rubles [$105.6 million] on developing the enterprise’s manufacturing facilities and introducing cutting-edge technologies. The most important thing is that the Angara carrier rocket will be produced only with the use of Russian-made components," Nazarov said.

According to the governor, a center is being set up on the premises of the Omsk State Technical University to prepare personnel who will be involved in the production of the Angara carrier rocket. The center will prepare specialists for the Polyot Enterprise, the Vostochny spaceport and other enterprises of Russia’s space industry.

As TASS reported earlier, the first stage of the reconstruction and the upgrade of the Polyot Enterprise started in 2009. A total of 6 billion rubles ($90 million) was allocated for the first stage. As many as 10 billion rubles ($150 million) will be spent on the second stage.

It still remains unknown how much money will be allocated for the third stage. When the third stage is completed, the enterprise will be able to produce more than 20 universal rocket modules for the Angara carrier rocket annually.
