Ukroboronprom showcases the T-72AMT at the international exhibition "Arms and Security 2017" in Ukraine. The T-72AMT is a deep modernization of the russian T-72A maint battle tank.

The T-72AMT is fitted with a new generation of armour called "Knife", which is already used on Bulat and Oplot main battle tanks. The rear of the hull and the turret are fitted with slat armour to increase protection against RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenades) threats. The T-72AMT is alos equipped with new night vision devices including modern third-generation image intensifiers, available for all crew members. the gunner has now also a night vision sight used to fire anti-tank guided missile able to penetrate 750 mm armor at the distance of 5 km.

The tank is also equipped with new digital radio stations manufactured by the Turkish company Aselsan and Ukrainian "Lybid K2RB" to enhance communications with infantry troops. It has also modern satellite navigation TKM-3YM. The T-72AMT keeps the original armament of the T-72 MBT which consists of one 125 mm (2A46) smoothbore gun fitted with a light-alloy thermal sleeve and a bore evacuator. A 7.62 mm PKT machine gun is mounted coaxially to the right of the main armament and one 12.7 mm NSV machine gun is mounted on the commander's cupola.
