The French Company Nexter Systems, which is now part of the KNDS group with the German Company KMW (Krauss-Maffei Wegmann), has developed two types of wheeled self-propelled howitzers in 6x6 and 8x8 configurations. In 2008, the CAESAR 6x6 equipped massively the French Army. The CAESAR 155mm howitzer on 6x6 chassis benefits from exceptional strategical and tactical mobility with unrivaled firepower. Its 155 mm/52 caliber howitzer provides fire support combining accuracy and extended range, and its wheeled chassis allows for air transport, while at the same time limiting its transport costs.

The French Company Nexter Systems, which is now part of the KNDS group with the German Company KMW (Krauss-Maffei Wegmann), has developed and manufactured two types of wheeled self-propelled howitzers in 6x6 and 8x8 configurations. The 8x8 variant is the second generation of 155mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer in the family of CAESAR (French acronym of CAmionEquipe d'un Systemed'ARtillerie, or truck equipped with an artillery system in English).

The Caesar 8x8 is an upgraded version of the 6x6 Caesar wheeled self-propelled howitzer using 155/52 caliber cannon. This artillery is designed and manufactured by the French Defense Company Nexter Systems. This version of the Caesar was unveiled during the defense exhibition in London, DSEI in September 2015.

At Eurosatory 2010, the French Defense Company Nexter Systems presented a new version of its wheeled self-propelled howitzer, the Caesar Mk2. This version is equipped with a new armor cabin which gives protection ballistic level-2 and 3A/2B mine aggressions, with standard Sherpa truck chassis.

The Caesar is a wheeled self-propelled howitzer designed and manufactured by the French Defence Company Nexter Systems. The last version of the Caesar uses the chassis of a 6x6 truck Sherpa 5 from Renault Trucks Defense. This version was presented for the first time during the International Defense Exhibition Eurosatory in 2006.
