The Virginia Army National Guard recently conducted an extremely unusual artillery exercise involving firing a 105mm M119 howitzer from on board a U.S. Army Vietnam-era LCM-8 landing craft, Joseph Trevithick reports on The Drive. The combination effectively provides a mobile fire support system for amphibious operations and during missions in riverine and other littoral environments.

Kirgizia wants to strengthen military-technical cooperation with Russia, Chief-of-Staff Raiimberdi Duishenbiev said at a ceremony to receive Russian arms. "We want to strengthen interaction in the military-technical sphere with the Russian Federation," he said. The supplied Russian hardware will enhance security and stabilize the situation in Central Asia, he added.

Russia’s Defense Ministry has set a procedure for the mechanized column, aircraft and helicopters to take part in the Victory Parade on Moscow’s Red Square on May 9 to celebrate the 74th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. "Over 130 wheeled and tracked vehicles will pass through Red Square while the parade’s air component will be represented by 74 aircraft," the ministry said in a statement.

While fighting against the Russian-backed separatists in the eastern part of their country, Ukrainian troops will take part in Spring Storm 2019, a multinational NATO exercise in Estonia starting on May 2. The exercise is involving troops from the US, Belgium, Georgia, Canada, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, France, Germany, Finland, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and Estonia.

The Belarusian defense industry is developing the Trio surface-to-air missile (SAM) system, according to the press department of the country`s State Committee for Military Industry (Goskomvoenprom, GKVP). "Belarus` Belspetsvneshtekhnika-New Technologies [BSVT-NT] will unveil the Trio SAM system at the MILEX 2019 defense show that will be held in Minsk, from May 15-18. The new weapon is primarily designed to engage small unmanned aerial vehicles [UAVs]," said a spokesperson for the GKVP.

South Korean defense manufacturer Hyundai Rotem has expressed its willingness to produce more than 2,000 units of the Future Ready Combat Vehicle (FRCV) under the ‘Make in India’ policy if it is awarded the five billion dollar contract for the same, The Financial Express reports. The Indian Army is looking to procure FRCV units to replace 2,414 of its ageing T-72 tanks. It is expected that the force would be able to induct these MBTs between 2025-27.

Estonian Center of Defence Investments (ECDI) signed an agreement with Milrem LCM OÜ for maintenance work online equipment aggregates of the Estonian Defence Forces (EDF). Indonesia has ordered BT-3F and BMP-3F armored amphibious armored vehicles from Russia for its Marinir Korps (Marine Corps) where they will replace old BTR-50Ps and K-61s of the Soviet era. The contract was signed in Jakarta on Monday, April 22, according to Rosoboronexport.

As reported by Jared Keller on Task & Purpose, a U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command spokesman told Marine Corps Times that the last of the service's 14,000 M27 infantry s have officially arrived in the Corps's inventory. But while the Corps's procurement contract with manufacturer Heckler & Koch provides for a maximum of 50,184 weapons, MARCORSYSCOM said that the service doesn't plan on purchasing more than its current arsenal.
