"The bilateral Indra exercise will involve army, navy and air force assets and troops together for the first time. This is the first time, when India is going to employ the three armed services on exercises in the same country," an Indian MoD spokesman has told journalists.

According to him, "the initial conference to discuss a scenario of the upcoming drills has been held by the Russian and Indian militaries, with two more to follow soon to complete the planning of tri-service Exercise Indra 2017."

"Finance and Defense Minister Arun Jaitley shall visit Russia on April 25-26 within the framework of the planned expansion of the bilateral military relations. During his visit, he will hold a number of talks and take part in the 6th Moscow Conference on International Security," the MoD press officer reminded.

The Russian-Indian Indra military exercise dating back to 2003 includes naval and counterterrorism drills. Before 2013, the two countries’ armies and navies had taken turns conducting their respective maneuvers. Since 2014, the exercise has been annual and included the land and naval segments.
